What you need to get started

To get started, you will need to know your SBC user ID (e.g. UserName@sbcglobal.net) and your password. If you do not know your user ID or password, when you start the process, the on-screen instructions will give you an opportunity to chat with a customer care agent who can help with this information.

NOTE: If you are using a 3rd party modem (not provided to you by SBC Internet Services) or router device to access the Internet you may be required to update the password that was previously set on this device. Please refer to the manufacturer’s instruction manual for assistance.

SBC Yahoo! Browser:
The SBC Yahoo! DSL experience comes with both a customizable browser and homepage. Once you transition your account by installing the software, the SBC Yahoo! Browser becomes your default browser for the service, and it will launch automatically each time you connect to the Internet. If you are currently using Internet Explorer and would like to continue using your existing browser, after you connect to SBC Yahoo! DSL, minimize the SBC Yahoo! DSL browser and click the Internet Explorer icon.

Two ways to get your email

After you transition your account, your email address does not change.

SBC Yahoo! DSL offers you the option of using two types of email:

Email Programs: This refers to email sent or received from an email program on your computer such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, etc. To access your email after you've installed SBC Yahoo! DSL, simply click on your current email program icon on your computer.

During SBC Yahoo! DSL installation, your email account settings are automatically configured for Outlook, Outlook Express, and Netscape Mail 4.7x. If you are using a different email program, please configure it by using the settings that are presented to you on the last screen of SBC Yahoo! DSL setup.

SBC Yahoo! Webmail: With webmail you get fast, easy access to your email from any web-connected computer, making it possible to send and receive email even when you are away from your home computer. Webmail is accessible from both your homepage and the SBC Yahoo! Browser.

NOTE: To copy your current email program address book to SBC Yahoo! Webmail, click Address from the SBC Yahoo! Webmail page and follow the Import/Export instructions.

Remember, you have the option of using either or both of these types of email with SBC Yahoo! DSL. For more information on email configuration and settings, click here to read Frequently Asked Questions and find more details.

Moving additional mailboxes/sub-accounts to SBC Yahoo! DSL

After you upgrade your master account to your new SBC Yahoo! DSL Internet experience, you can transition your existing additional mailboxes /sub-accounts by doing either of the following:
Go to http://yahoo.sbc.com and log-in using the sub-account member ID and password. Then, simply follow the on-screen instructions. OR: Go to your SBC Yahoo! DSL "My Account" page. Your additional mailboxes /sub-accounts will be listed on this page. Select a sub-account to transition by clicking the Upgrade Sub-Acct link.

If the sub-account member uses a different computer than the master account, the sub-account member may install, on his or her computer, the same SBC Yahoo! DSL software that the master account loaded onto his or her computer.

NOTE: You will need to transition each additional mailbox/sub-account separately. If you have more than 10 additional mailboxes /sub-accounts, you will need to reduce the number of sub-accounts in order to upgrade. If you need more than 10 sub-accounts, you will need to purchase another master account at an additional charge.

What happens if you currently have a Yahoo! ID

If you already have an existing Yahoo! ID and account, you will be able to keep it, or you can merge your Yahoo! ID and account information with your new SBC Yahoo! DSL account. This will allow you to continue to use your current Yahoo! email address as well as your existing personal information and preferences without the need to set up your new SBC Yahoo! DSL account from scratch.

What do I gain by merging my Yahoo! ID?

By merging your existing Yahoo! account with your new SBC Yahoo! DSL account, you will immediately enjoy a new level of service. You will enjoy upgraded versions of SBC Yahoo! Mail, and SBC Yahoo! Photos. Also, the email sent to your yahoo.com email address will now be routed to your SBC Yahoo! DSL email box. You can use your SBC Yahoo! password with both your Yahoo ID and your SBC Yahoo! DSL ID.

Preferences such as Mail Settings, Instant Messenger, My Yahoo!, Home page content and settings, Portfolios, Photos, Calendar, etc. will be transferred to your new SBC Yahoo! DSL account.

In the event you need to discontinue your SBC Yahoo! DSL account, you have the opportunity to retain your Yahoo! ID, your SBC Internet Services ID (domain.net), your mail (2GB of online storage space for email), sub-accounts, email addresses, calendar items, photos with unlimited online storage, and more for only $9.95 per month. If you do not want to retain this benefit, you can either transfer some of your existing data to a new Yahoo! account with a different ID or your data will be deleted. You will only be able to transfer this data to a Yahoo! account. You will not be able to transfer the data to any another ISP or email account.
